Applied Communication Project
AI's Ethical Spectrum
+ Media Literacy
Our Intervention lasted 2 weeks from March 28th to April 11th.
Here you will see our Strategies, Posts, Research Guide, Highlighted LOC's, and supplemental material.
Intervention Strategies
Tabling
On the Instagram account, we announced 5 days our group would set up to interact with students. Each of us would pair up for at least an hour in a populous space.
Using an account named @ai.ethical.spectrum
We posted 12 items and shared on our story/highlights of AI knowledge, tabling information, and survey notices.
Surveys
We created three different surveys: a pre-intervention survey, mid-point survey, and post-intervention survey. All three gave important information about the intervention.
Interactive Posterboards
We created two different interactive posters - Pro's and Con's where students could share on a note their thoughts on AI, and an AI Ethical Use Pledge where students could paint their hands to pledge.
Presentation
We were able to get a short time frame in a Professor's class to share our project, general information, and include the Professor's students in our intervention.
Flyers
On over 30 flyers, we included our branding with a QR Code that directed participants and students with our Surveys and our Instagram.
Learning Outcomes and Competencies
While we have identified use in all 10 LOC's in our Applied Communication Project, these 3 out shadowed the rest:
ā
LOC 1: Describe the Communication Discipline and Its Central Questions
- Our group explored core questions within the communication discipline, such as how messages influence public perception and the ethical responsibilities of communicators. By focusing on AI ethics and media literacy, we examined how communication shapes understanding and public dialogue—especially around emerging technologies.
LOC 5: Critically Analyze Messages
- Our project involved both creating and evaluating messages about AI, particularly related to bias, misinformation, and ethical use. Through surveys, social media posts, and in-person discussions, we encouraged others to critically reflect on how AI shapes information and public discourse—while we also reflected on these impacts ourselves.
LOC 10: Exploring Collaboration
- As a group project, our success depended on effective teamwork. We shared responsibilities, supported each other’s strengths, and communicated regularly to ensure alignment. From planning logistics to creating content, we practiced collaborative communication to bring our ideas to life and make the project meaningful.
